My First Blog
Friday, May 28, 2010 at 06:15PM I have always been a writer. I was a writer back when thoughts were scripted on typewriters and interviews were conducted with tape cassettes and notepaper. That is how these stories came about. By listening on a boom box to interviews recorded half way around the world. The piece originated in 1995. I guess we've covered quite a bit of technological ground since then.
I have never been a blogger. Up until six months ago blogging sounded vaguely like a medieval form of torture. I am still not convinced that this is not the case. Ah, the Battle of Hastings? 1066? Yay, many a good man perished through blogging.
I am told that blogging is a forum through which one can explore contemporary articles and ideas. This is what I hope to do here. I am also told that my process of going into remote communities (most recently to refugee camps on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda) and interviewing the women there may interest some people. I hope to do this too.
The first part of this blog will detail the upcoming production of "Letters to Clio - Part II, Margarita." The second part will detail my journey to understand the world of Solange (Part III) from refugee camp tenant to New York resident. I hope you enjoy the journey and I hope you will share your thoughts and comments with me.
If not, then perhaps a good blogging might do the trick.
